New bags (and labels .. and eventually new coffees)

We are moving away from hand stamping.

Sure, that craft look was something we all enjoyed; however, it has been holding us back. The stamping limited us in bringing in new coffees and it also pained our little forearms. It was time to say good bye to stamping.

So, over the next couple of weeks we will be rolling out new bags at all of our retail locations. They will still contain our delicious locally roasted coffee, but there will be some minor changes:

  • The bags can stand up on their own! They don’t need scissors to open and won’t burst. They have an internal seal!

  • We will offer the same BGC staple coffees at the grocery stores. From time to time the subregion or farm may change, but the country and roast will stay the same. We will also keep the icons on the labels as some people only remember those (e.g., “I like the moose one.”).

  • The website will be updated and will have more information on each coffee that we currently roast.

  • Please note the certifications on the labels. We strive to bring in direct trade, fair trade, and organic coffee; however, sometimes it is hard for us to source what we need and then we just can’t offer that coffee. Rather than not offering a coffee, we may bring in something similar that has different certifications.

  • These bags are unfortunately not compostable. Limiting waste in the north is still very important to us. The industry for coffee bags has not caught up yet with what producers and consumers are requesting. We will continue to research composting materials and will hopefully one day bring them in!

  • We will continue to bring in new micro lots and other coffees that will be available online through delivery and shipping.
